The Republic of Mozambique is situated in the south-east of Africa, bordering the Indian Ocean and other african countries such as Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. There are more than 20 million people living in Mozambique, which in recent years has made a great effort to eradicate poverty and lift itself outside of third-world status. Its capital and most important city is Maputo.

Moxambique is a former colony of Portugal, which is the reason for Portuguese being the country's official language. Located in the south-east of Africa, the interior side of the country has a mountain range with peaks over 2500m of altitude, with the River Zambeze spliting the country in two.

One its major attraction, without doubt, are it's beaches, with their white sand and crystal clear waters. With prices so low, there has been much investment in the country in recent times, which has also been helped by increased earnings through tourism. Mozambique also stands out for its variety, with one being able to go shopping, go on safari and camp in the wild all in one day.

Cities such as Maputo, Inhambane, Beira, Xai-Xai and Pemba have all gained greater economical importance in recent years, with tourism and port activity being the main earners.

With regard to hotels and holiday accommodation, Mozambique is still in the process of growth, with mass tourism still a distant dream. So whilst there may not be as much to choose from, the originality and authenticity of the accommodations make the country stand out from other tourist destinations.

ABove all else, Mozambique is a nature paradise, with plenty of national parks and nature reserves to visit. It is also possible in many locations to camp out in the wild, and appreciate first hand the country's stunning fauna and flora, with lions, leopards, crocodiles, elephants, rhinoceros and buffaloes all gracing the country's plains.
